If you are interested in warez, p2p etc. stuff, please look elsewhere. The site contains only plain text stored into a mySQL database. Otherwise feel free to send comments and questions. I want to improve the site and hear your opinions and ideas.

IRC pre announce setup is bit complex. 1st you will need some good irc sources: getting feed from pre-websites is not a good approach. Some public announce chans are listed here: http://filesharefreak.com/2009/01/26/pre-database-scene-release-and-dupecheck-websites/.
Catching new releases from irc channel requires some sort of bot and scripting. Most channels wont allow eggdrops, because those are usually considered as leechers. Talk to to channel ops and ask if they would allow leeching. Personally I would, but in fact I don’t admin any announce channels or bots.
You could also consider using bots that look like normal clients like irssi. Screened Irssi can do lots of things with .py scripts. There are probably many good alternatives. In any case you should setup your own database where to collect the data.
I’ll try to post some examples at some point. Meanwhile you could discuss this with e.g. Spidernet #pre-stuff ppl. Perhaps some of them could give some ideas and pointers.
Most of us started from nothing and learned few things along the way. I’d like to share my knowledge, but that cant be done with one or two blog posting or comments.
I hope you succeed eventually. It will require some work and learning new stuff, but that can be also fun

@po2: yea, complete DB will be done if possible. In fact, I have just inserted last three months of 2007. Filling one month takes ~14 hrs with current system and that needs to be monitored, too. Slowly but surely…
